Sat. Jan. 15th 2011 Pilot Knob CA

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,
 since August 2006
giant cinnamon bun
We start the day off with coffee, computing a walkabout then at 9:00am today they sell these giant fresh from the oven cinnamon buns for $1.25 soo good, (we split one). After this we were requested to come to a short sales presentation (they wanna sell us another membership, no thanks). This was only 15 minutes and just for attending we receive a twenty dollar refund on the ten dollars a night we paid here, plus two free meals (we choose sunday breakfast).
Arizona Marketplace
Now by 9:30 am we are in the car for the twenty minute drive to Arizona Marketplace a huge swap meet/fleamarket in Yuma with hundreds of vendors selling just about everything you can think of, from tools to pottery, books, clothes, jewelry and food. We walked about here for about three hours, its mostly under a roof to keep the sun away with partially enclosed sides in the many rows of buildings there.

Suzie found the books!
We were about done and checked out the food court for a quick bite but decided a very light $1.00 lunch at MacDonalds instead so that we could may stop at the Casino for their Seafood Buffet tonight.

After a quick bite , we headed east a few miles into the foothills, passing nothing but RV resorts, they are everywhere here over 60 of them in Yuma. This would be to accommodate  the additional 90,000 winter residents that flock here, plus another 300,000 winter visitors to the city with a population of only 90,000 permanent residents, for more interesting info on Yuma click here
Mike and Wendy's rv resort
Now we had arranged to visit Mike and Wendy at 1:30 pm in their resort Caravan Oasis. They are a couple orignially from Ontario  that are fulltime RV'ers and have a home base in Alberta, we met them in Rockport Texas the fall of 2006. We met up with them again for the US Thanksgiving 2008 in New Orleans, now find them again in Yuma Arizona. Keeping in touch via email and more recently facebook really helps us keep up with and reconnect with friends.
snacks
We nibbled on snacks, and a couple of beverages, chatted for a few hours, just getting caught up somewhat, so much to talk about and had a fantastic visit. Now we have heard Mike, sing and play his guitar, (they do a lot of jam sessions) and he (Wendy too) even run some karaoke nights at various campgrounds as well.
Mike and Wendy
Well not wanting to wear out our welcome we headed back to our resort stopping at the Quechan Casino to check out the seafood buffet. We were early enough that there was no lineup like there was for lunch the other day, but still quite busy. Now we both love seafood and got a $2.00 discount with our players cards so only $13.99 each for unlimited crablegs, catfish, cod, frog legs, shrimp, salmon clams , oysters, sushi, spareribs, fried chicken, roast beef, salads, veggies, potatoes, pasta and deserts, even a chocolate fountain. As much as we tried could not even sample everything, but it was oh soo good and reasonably priced. After supper to relax we challenged the penny slot machines and managed to be entertained for about an hour and half for a small donation.
the casino
Ok enough fun for one day, we are tired and full, so back out to the car in the almost full parking lot and what do we see a very nice new pickup parked right beside our tiny car with Alberta Plates, I am sure it is Mike and Wendy's truck, too cool, but we did not see them in the casino,(oh it was not their truck they have an alibi). In a week or so they plan to come to the RV show in Quartzsite and hope they will visit us there.

Thanks, once again for joining our travels with us.
