Wed. June 8th, a Weather day

Join us as we travel North America in our
Holiday Rambler Vacationer, since August 2006

Overnight was quite warm but quite windy so not too bad for sleeping. Up early with the sunrise and a nice view overlooking the lake. Today is going to be hot and humid, up to 40c (104f). The standard coffee and computing then our friend Jim arrived for a visit to surprise my sister and brother inlaw. They had lost touch over the years and I was able to tell him where they now lived, at his sons wedding last saturday, so it was another fun reunion.
chatting
nice day
Jim is "the fisherman" as is my brother in law so we sat on their pontoon boat and chatted, getting advice from Jim on fishing spots and swapping fish stories.
even the fish came to listen !
Then we had a bite to eat for lunch and Jim had to leave, promising to return with his fishing gear and boat, now that he knows where they live.

With the weather being hot and sunny and Paul had a tall ladder here I was able to clean around the top of our windshield and install a vinyl eavestrough, this should prevent the slight water leak that happens when we have a heavy dew.

Eavestrough done
Then putter around for a while longer and eventually time to fire up the barbie to grill some maple salmon skewers to have with some salads for a tasty supper. But the skies turned very dark, with high winds and we could see the storm coming across the lake.
storm is coming
Next thing we know we had the thunder, lightning and heavy rains.
the rain is here.
We brought the salmon in but not quite done so microwave a bit, but the power is out by now, so into my sisters rv, fire up the jenny and finish up supper in the microwave and we can enjoy a candlelight dinner.

Paul had told us earlier today that they had purchased an emergency back up generator for power outages and have never been able to see if it works. Well the power is still out so let's try it. We put in some fresh gas, plugged into the house adaptor then fired it up. Now we have power for the essential things, like water pump, fridge, freezer, lights and tv. No problem.
fueling up
Once we got the power working I went to our house for a beverage and noticed the neighbours looking at a large tree that had fallen and completely blocked the road. More excitement!

Another neighbour came by on his atv, saw an opportunity, got his chainsaw and trailer, came back right away and quickly cleaned it up, now he has some firewood.
Mike clearing the road
Ok we have had a busy day, the mosquitoes came to join the party, so time to call it a night, turn on the tv for a bit and relax. We always have power in our house, a large solar panel, good battery storage system, power inverter and even our on board generator if we need it. Wonder what fun things tomorrow will bring?

  1. Action packed day you had for certain. My imagination has me writing a short story based on all the events and throwing in a few sinister scenes around the power outage and the chain saw. Camping sure is great! How can you possible leave your sister's home? Like Ruth & Kevin, I say a great spot! Your new window "ledge" is very efficient. Don't know how we managed so long without it. Cheap too!!

Yep the window ledge is great! We like it here, she is my sister and they have a nice place, it sure is nice to visit and get together, we will be back. But we have so many more places to go and people to see, always busy. On the road again friday.

  3. Well that was an exciting day. From beautiful and sunny, out on the lake to a big storm with lots of rain, no power and a tree down, phew...nice to know that you will always have power. Love those solar panels and batteries.
